SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS,
STORY OF AN INTUITION

Until a few years ago, they were called “protective nets”. Now they are “green healthcare solutions”, the green solutions for human health, plants and the environment. This evolution bears the signature of Paolo Arrigoni, CEO of the Arrigoni group, European leader in hi-tech textile applications for agriculture.

THE IDEA

“The intuition comes from my experience. I am son of a weaver and a pharmacist, I have a humanistic education and I love nature. In short, from the beginning I had to do with health, nature and … looms!”.

How can you combine these elements, so different from each other? Everything starts from a reflection on harmony. For any crop, harmony means growing and developing in a favorable environment. This can be created through innovative agrotextile screens that allow the plant to dialogue and relate to the environment. Thus, absorbing the power of nature – air, water, sun – but at the same time enjoying protection from external climatic events and insect attacks”.

WHAT WE REALIZE

The environment and the favorable microclimate make the plant healthier and stronger. And, therefore, less in need of chemical treatments. “Not having to defend against climate adversity – Arrigoni notes – plants can invest their energies in fruiting. The ideal cultural conditions increase the photosynthesis of the plant, consequently, the production of polyphenols. Ultimately, the absence or low content of chemicals means more polyphenols and, therefore, a healthier and safer food, as well as better health for humans. Thus, a healthier planet: the use of pesticides could be reduced by 80%! “.

The idea of a “green healthcare”, then, is in perfect harmony with some of the objectives for the sustainable development of the United Nations: fighting hunger, achieving food security, guaranteeing sustainable production and consumption patterns and promoting actions, to all levels, to combat climate change and promote sustainable use of the Earth’s ecosystem.

“Arrigoni researchers, agronomists, engineers, women and men are at the forefront of the

beautiful challenge for green healthcare. And they have developed a line of innovative agrotextiles able to create the ideal microclimate for the cultivated species. The most innovative solutions – Arrigoni concludes – are Biorete Air Plus®, the insect screen with greater air permeability, Prisma® and Robuxta@, thermo-reflecting screen that diffuses light, and Protecta® the multifunctional screen for protection against rain, hail, sun, wind and insects”.
